a {love}ly surprise

Last Friday, I was up at my mom's waiting for Andrew to join us for dinner.  When I talked to him on the phone, I was disappointed to hear that he wasn't feeling well and just wanted to go to bed.  So my mom and I got Chinese and watched Dateline.  Although Andrew was feeling awful by Saturday morning, I soon discovered his real reason for skipping out on Friday's dinner.

He must have caught a cold from all the cleaning and Valentine-ing he did.  I came home to a sparkling house scattered with candy (the peanut butter M&M's and heart-shaped Jr. Mints didn't last long enough for a photo), roses, and at least 20 little love notes.

All arguments against the commercialism and outrageous expectations placed on Valentine's Day heard, I still LOVE it!  I always have.  My mom always had a little journal or something waiting on our plates at dinner, and my dad typically brought home a carnation for each of his "girls."

Even though I balk at the price of a dozen roses this time of year, the ones at my house are perfect and thoughtful and make me so happy!

I even got a rose and a note from Ezra!

Of course, a balloon and a Valentine for the boy...

Since I was babysitting all day Monday (and Drew never claimed Valentine's as one of his favorite days), I got a pass to do something nice for him on another day.  With all my excitement, I couldn't wait long.  On Tuesday, we put Ezra to bed early and had a yummy fajita picnic in the living room, complete with chocolate covered strawberries.

It also makes me wonder at God's love.  If Andrew's love makes him go to such lengths as this, not to mention the everyday and sometimes mundane things he does for us, how much more amazing is the love of our Father?  Whether on this day or another, I love the idea of having a day to celebrate love!  After all, we love because He first loved us.
