I win!

And so does he.
Andrew went on a little overnight trip this last weekend.
My triumph is that he didn't want my oatmeal.
But he took it anyway and loved it.
He was sad because his favorite instant oatmeal is maple brown sugar, and the kind I had in the cupboard was whole grain (unusual for instant) cranberry almond.

Here are a few beautiful pictures of his adventure.

Breakfast at sunrise.....aaahh.

His triumph: he used five of the six pair of socks he packed.
I teased him about all the socks, and he said, "Nothing's worse than crusty socks."

I don't know all the details of the photos; just that he was up near Brighton ski resort.

And he got into a sketchy situation.  He had reception the whole time, so we talked on the phone periodically.  At one point he told me he was in a scary spot and had to be careful.  Umm, stressful!

He tied a rope to his backpack and tossed it down the hill, so he could maneuver an unexpected boulder field.

He made it down safely, no thanks to his map.
He discovered that his map was wrong!

He showed it to someone he met on the trail
(once he made it back to a trail he knew).
The man knew the trail Andrew had been looking for, but said the map didn't show it correctly.  He said that he'd also had a map that was wrong before.
He told Drew it would make nice wrapping paper.

Holy cow, that's dangerous!
I guess danger and risk make an adventure adventurous.
But I'd rather be able to trust the map.

In the end though, Andrew really wins because he got to experience such beauty and his soul is refreshed.
